Lemme know what you think.

Now, we know 944s like mine don't make much power in today's standards(150hp!!) and one way to apparently make them sound good is to gut or drop the cat and weld in a test pipe.

Problem is, I have no idea if this sounds ricey like Hondas or not, because I don't want to sound like a Honda. I also have to worry about loosing backpressure so I don't lose any low-end torque(it does have it)

Or just a muffler change would do?

It sounds way too buzzy without the cat.

too hard for me to tell because only the last video shows the car driving away

to really know if you like an exhaust you need to hear the car at idle and in motion

I like this one best so far. But I haven't seen the car in the first video drive away

This is the only one with drive away

Since I know your thoughts on removing the muffler, I shall suggest this:

Super cheapish, and sounds decent. Or:

that's what i figured. it's really hard to find good exhaust videos

Something sounds odd on that last one...944s aren't supposed to be so lopey.

For this car, yes!

I do believe that's just the tone of the Flowmaster.

Might be too raspy? I'm not sure, but a nice deep tone would be preferable, or whatever it takes to not make it sound like a Honda civic ricecar

Turbo + Larger diameter straight pipe = glorious deep sound, along with choo choo choo?

Large pipes would solve everything, at the cost of my low end torque completely

But a turbo would improve it!

Better off buying a turbo than trying to turbo a regular 944, I won't sell this car.

Definitely the muffler, it has a really good tone to it and doesn't sound ricey at all. It should be the easier one to install to. You also won't have to worry about losing low end torque or backpressure.

But every thread I've read on the matter from street cars to racing spec have commented on this torque loss; I guess not so much loss, but moved higher up into the rpms.

With new mufflers? Obviously 944's are a bit different from what I'm used to but that doesn't sound right to me. If anything you'll feel a bit more power. Not necessarily from gained power but the added sound will make the car feel faster.

Ya, I'm talking about the mufflers in the third video. I really like the tone they had. I would get those if I were in your position. And like I said, you won't have to worry about torque loss.

So pricey though, over $300...Then again, I paid $900+ for the FoST.....A Porsche aftermarket part cheaper than a Ford product??

That's really good actually. My entire catback exhaust was nearly 800. Last owner put that on though.

Even the cheap GT500 exhaust for the 5.0's are 300-400. That's as cheap as you'll get for the 5.0's.

Who would've thought the top-of-the line model's exhaust would come at such a low price?? Why is that?

Do you have any sound clips yet by the way? I've been meaning to ask for a while.

Kinja'd!!! 03mach1 - Now has a Fiesta ST > K-Roll-PorscheTamer
01/15/2015 at 02:10

Kinja'd!!!0

They're just a cheap exhaust to make. That and because they're from a mass produced (Sort of) car they can probably get the price really low.

No sound clips yet. I keep meaning to but I kind of forget. Right now I want to make sure my new clutch issue isn't anything major. I also need to find a good place to get some sound clips. I can't think of any quiet empty parking lots to really let loose. I might try and get a few revs in my garage though to test it out. But I'm not sure my neighbors would appreciate me randomly revving my engine. I could just pretend I'm trying to replicate a noise I'm hearing if you know what I mean...

Fair enough.

I did my sound clips(most of them) in my driveway during the day when no ones around. Good thing about having a throttle body you can rev from the engine bay, it makes you look like you're doing work hehe. Vaccum leaks, running rough, what have you! :p

I have been home for the past 4-5 weeks and could have done it but I know a lot of my neighbors are still home so I don't take the risk. Then again they don't seem mad at my next door neighbors who are always working on and revving their dirt bikes and go karts... Maybe a few revs won't hurt.

So, here's a video I found awhile ago that looks suspiciously exactly like my car. Same exhaust set up to. Sounds the same.

My alfa really isn't comparable to your 944 but i put a rear muffler delete on mine which gives it a bit deeper and louder tone plus gives it that "hollow pipe" echo to it

I haven't noticed any decrease in performance with it

although imo with your 944 you'd be better of with a less restrictive muffler(s)

the video should start at 1:21
